In 1990, as a young photographer with The Free Lance-Star newspaper, I was assigned to shoot a sailboat race hosted by the Dahlgren Yacht Club in Dahlgren, VA. It was a slow day, so I asked to take photos of the race aboard a small yellow sailboat named A.Tack.Duck. We won the race.
I joined DYC and raced on many boats for the next 14 years, including my Laser on Thursday nights and my Alberg 30 Sabrina on Mondays.
My current boat, Avemar, was in the slip next to Sabrina for years.
I bought Avemar in 2021 and became a full-time live-aboard cruising sailor.
It’s cool to be back in Machodoc Creek aboard Avemar and anchored off the yacht club where everything started.
Lovely, brother. I'm enjoying your nostalgia 😊.
